Humerus break (No, not funny) ;-)
Hello NJ Guzzi riders,
Just got back from Italy. Wish I could say it was a nice stay……..but it was not.
On Feb. 8th, my 2nd day there, while walking, I slipped on ice and fell, causing a serious break of the humerus on my right arm. Got taken to a hospital and operated a few days later. Now I have some miscellaneous titanium parts between my shoulder and my elbow. The Doctor told me that it would take 5-6 months before I could resume “normal operations”. Needless to say, I could not use my bike at all during my, so called, vacation. I plan to see an orthopedic doctor here to seek his/her opinion on the matter.
And, as the sergeant on Hill Street Blues used to say: “Let’s Be Careful Out There”!
Ride safe,
Nick

Aw man - that sucks.
I broke my right arm at the wrist about 6 years ago (sparring, zigged when I should have zagged) and it was a PIA during the recovery process. I've only got a small plate and 7 or 9 screws or something like that.
Heal well man.
Let us know if you need a "hand" with anything (literally).

Sorry to hear that Nick. Don't emulate Marc Marquez and try to come back too quickly - the humerus is a bigger bone and takes time to heal correctly.
Once you get clearance some careful weight training will help strengthen the bone. If not offered by the MD, ask for PT and do ALL of it.

Well - I though I was having a shitty winter but you have me beat.
No experience with aftermarket parts, put I know a few people that are walking around with (and on ) them without a problem. I haven't been on a bike this year.

Hey Nick - how's the arm doing? Hopefully you're getting close to fully mended.

Still doing PT. Visiting the Orthopedic Doctor tomorrow for a follow up. Originally they told me 5-6 months, so August hopefully.
Thanks for asking Eric

5-6 months? Wow - that's a long process. How does the arm feel? I remember my ACL surgery and it taking almost a year to feel 'normal' again.

That's what I said!!
The arm feels OK as long as I don't lift anything. The doc feels that the healing process is proceeding normally. The PT concentrated on the shoulder and elbow movement, as they were a little "frozen in place". Then the arm muscles needed to be re-built to help support the arm and strengthen around the humerus. etc.....
I'm sure that if I were 25 years old I would be riding the bikes by now

Back to the scene of the crime as it were? At least you don't have to worry about ice this time of year...
