Service Question Empty Service Question

Post by ff73148 Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:25 pm

I’ll will need to get my first service on my Bobber and it will be a trip up to Hamlin’s. Where does everyone get service done on their MG? With no dealer in NJ it’s an issue.

Hamlin's, or do it ourselves. Where are you located?

Yup, it's DIY here.

If I had to hand it to someone I'm not sure where I'd go, probably Hamlin's. I'd only go to West Chester, PA if it was warmer or if they stick around long enough to earn a reputation.

First service is very straightforward. All you'll need are some metric wrenches, allen keys and a feeler gauge. Make sure you purchase the correct oil along with an oil filter. I bought Liqui Moly 10w-60 on Amazon and the filter from AF-1.

Service Question Empty My suggestion, do your own first service

Post by dennisjay Tue Oct 15, 2019 12:16 am

Like most riders on this forum I do my own service. I've had mediocre to poor service at dealerships in the past, same with automotive. Lucky for us these bikes are rather simple. Important Note: Piaggio has nearly Zero Quality Control measures in place these days. So, the most important part of your first service is INSPECTION. Other than that, change the fluids, set the valve lash and kick the tires. I spent $125 on fluids and filters at AF1 Racing.

I tried to attach a .pdf document of my first service log for your reference, however I get an error message stating that this server is out of space, bummer, it mainly consists of problems I found during my inspection that my dealer missed, but they charged me over $100 for "set-up". Incidentally, they are out of business now...

Here is a link to my first service log: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

You will learn a great deal about your ride if you service it yourself. You'll also know that the job is done right. Makes for peaceful riding.

Den.
