Barber Museum
While looking at the 100+ pictures I took last weekend I realized that the museum is missing an important motorcycle. They DON'T have a Munch Mammoth.

Re: Barber Museum
Are you sure they don't?
I THOUGHT that part of their collection is always rotating and much of it was in storage?
Am I remembering wrong?

Re: Barber Museum
I've been there five times over the last ten years and it seems what is on display remains fairly static (but in perfect condition). I think if they had something as unique as a Mammoth it would be on display.
You can see into the storage area (if you are a museum member) and I didn't see any dual headlight bikes looking back at me.
When they have more bikes to display it seems they just build a new building, spending large amounts of money doesn't seem to be a problem.
This facility is truly one of a kind and very much a must see destination for anyone interested in motorcycles (or Lotus cars).

Re: Barber Museum
During the event Bonhams held a motorcycle and accessory auction in the museum. Thanks to the way the museum is laid out you could get a good view of the proceedings without registering for the auction. Some of the items went for reasonable prices, like a nice R1100RT for $3,500. Some nice 70 era Brit bikes went in the mid 5K range and a few more collectible BMWs went for reasonable prices.. Then the 'others'. Steve McQueen's Husqvarna 400, from the movie 'On Any Sunday' went for $230,500, the next item up was a helmet that McQueen wore.I figured they should throw it in with the almost a quarter of a million dollar bike, then the bidding started. The helmet went for almost $22,000.

I've never been to a big time motorcycle auction and the museum offers a great opportunity to catch all the action. The auctioneer with his Brit accent was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the items coming before him.
Here's a link to some of the bikes that went on the block:[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
